Central building moves to the Strückerberg

On Wednesday, June 24, District Administrator Olaf Schade issued an invitation to the presentation of the new central building for the Ennepe-Ruhr district police force at the district hall following the conclusion of the EU-wide tendering process.

"A top-class building with exemplary character is being created here, which was planned specifically for the needs of the police," said Schade. The main building of the Ennepe-Ruhr district police station presented here can also hold its own with a large police headquarters. Citizen-oriented, professional and in accordance with the rule of law, this is how the police perform their role and tasks and this is also reflected in this planning design.

The entrance area in particular, with its open and inviting character, represents this closeness to citizens and virtually invites citizens to seek contact with their police in the Ennepe-Ruhr district.

The open space design around the building is spacious and, above all, functional and meets the safety requirements for the police of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in all areas.

Here, employees and citizens will have significantly more space than in the previously used buildings

"The centralization of the district police authority is very important to me personally," emphasizes the district administrator.

The planned commissioning of the central main building in 2023 and the bundling of all organizational units will create shorter decision-making paths. With the realization of this construction project, we are uniting six locations, which were previously housed in four municipalities, in one place.

However, this is not just about securing the location of the police, I am also pleased that this also applies to the preservation of the so-called "protection man" on the corner - the district service. Despite a modern central building, the police will remain in Gevelsberg, Schwelm and Ennepetal with their district offices as local contacts for citizens and the patrol service will continue to ensure safety in the communities as usual.

"As District Administrator of the Ennepe-Ruhr district, I am both the head of the district police authority and the employer of the fire department, as far as district matters are concerned. Although we are creating separate police and fire department properties in the southern Ennepe-Ruhr district, I also expect the neighborly connection and the police and non-police orientation to create significant synergies and simplify coordination processes that will benefit the entire population in the Ennepe-Ruhr district."
